Helicity asymmetry for proton emission from polarized electrons in the eikonal regime

چکیده
The nuclear response to longitudinally polarized electrons, detected in coincidence with out-of-plane high-energy protons, is discussed in a simple model where the ejectile wave function is approximated as a plane wave with a complex wave vector. This choice is equivalent to solve the problem of Final-State Interactions (FSI) in homogeneous nuclear matter, as the residual nucleus can be described to a first approximation when dealing with very fast emitted protons. The main advantage of the present method is that in the framework of the Distorted-Wave Impulse Approximation (DWIA) at the one-photon exchange level it allows for an analytical derivation of all the components of the nuclear response, including the socalled fifth structure function f ′ 01, which is very sensitive to FSI. The imaginary part of the complex wave vector produces purely geometrical FSI effects and, consequently, breaks the symmetry of the cross section with respect to the incoming electron helicity. Inspection of every single contribution in the analytical formulae, here considered up to the fourth order in the nonrelativistic reduction in powers of the in-

Measurement of Double Helicity Asymmetry in Multi-Particle Production with Polarized Proton-Proton Collision at PHENIX
A goal of the PHENIX experiment is to obtain the polarized gluon distribution function in the proton. Double helicity asymmetry in multi-particle production with polarized proton-proton collision is measured at midrapidity with RHIC Run 2005 data. This result excludes the maximum positive gluon polarization (“GRSV-max”).

The STAR Collaboration is pursuing measurements to help understand the origin of the proton spin. The gluon polarization is accesible via measurements of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry, ALL , for inclusive charged and neutral pions and inclusive jet production. A recent global analysis of polarized DIS data and RHIC spin data disfavors extreme gluon polarization scenarios. The measureme...

We calculated the single spin asymmetry in the inclusive pion production in the fragmentation region of transversely polarized proton-proton collisions. We generated the asymmetry at the level of fragmentation function (Collins effect) by the Lund coloured string mechanism. We compared our results to the presently available experimental data. We obtained a qualitative agreement with the data af...
متن کاملDetermination of the neutron spin structure function.
The neutron spin-structure function g 1 has been determined by measuring the asymmetry in deep inelastic scattering of polarized electrons off a polarized He target. The results are interpreted in the quark-parton model and used, in conjuction with earlier proton results, to test the Bjorken sum rule. A measurement of the neutron spin-structure function gn 1 at SLAC by deep inelastic scattering...
متن کاملElectron helicity-dependence in (e, e′p) reactions with polarized nuclei and the fifth response function
The cross section for electron-induced proton knockout reactions with polarized beam and target is computed in a DWIA model. The analysis is focused on the electron helicity-dependent (HD) piece of the cross section. For the case of in-plane emission, a new symmetry is found in the HD cross section, which takes opposite values for specific opposing pairs of nuclear orientations, explaining why ...
